Welcome to the 8th grade team website where we are glad to offer you additional information that we feel will help you guide your child through a hard, yet enriching year at The Universal American Middle School (UAS). The partnership you are able to foster with your children during this key developmental stage will undoubtedly be rewarding for all parties concerned.
All the core subject outlines are a wish list of items to be covered over the next few weeks, and its success rate is largely dependant on the speed at which students acquire mastery of the concepts. Any changes to the outlines will be posted to keep you informed and provide you as a constant source of information for your children. Feel free to actively challenge your children to work ahead of the pack, if they are coping with the work load. This will help them foster a secure sense of preparedness that supports higher learning.
Please be cognisant of the fact that the course outline is not a substitute for a homework planner, but rather serves to motivate those students who are well supervised at home to deliver their best effort. Homework is an exercise in responsibility and the sooner we jointly equip your children with this skill, the better. It is therefore required that all 8th grade students write down their homework from the classroom board before they leave the class at the end of each lesson. Monitor your child's ability to maintain his/her homework planner on a daily basis, as this simple yet effective tool could mean the world of difference to your child's confidence and success while at UAS.
On days that students are not assigned homework they should indicate that they are required to part-take in extra Research, Reading and Studying (R.R.S). Each teacher also has a contact box where parents may contact the teachers with any questions they may have.
